DR Noel Cassels, M..B.B.S. (Hons.1) R.R.C.O.G., F.R.A.C.O.G.
Noel Cassels commenced playing cornet, winning his first solo at the age of 11 years. Since then, he has won Queensland and Australian Championships on tenor horn, winning the Champion of Champions in 1979 and winner of the famed Ern Keller Awards on tenor horn.

During a period of medical studies in the U.K. Noel continued his pursuit of music and was awarded The Tenor Horn Championships of Great Britain at the age of 29 years.

In 1981, he moved to Townsville taking over the lower graded Townsville Brass. In the 8 years he was with the band, he increased the standard dramatically, winning the Australian Championships in 1982 and for the next 6 years, achieving 1st and 2nd placing in the Qld. State Championships.

Noel is an adjudicator for State and District Championships and has been involved in the Queensland Band Association Music Advisory Board for the past 3 years.

He was appointed Musical Director of Brisbane Excelsior Band this year, taking the place of Barrie Gott.



BARRIE GOTT, (M.Mus.,LTCL,A.Mus.A.) resigned from the band in June this year, to take up an appointment with The Brisbane City Temple Band.

His enormous contribution to Excelsior during the past 5 years, resulted in 1st in the Queensland State Championships, Nambour district Contest, Maryborough "Best of Brass" and a consistent increase in placing in the Australian National Band Champions. A highlight of his time with the band was achieving 4th place at the Australian National Titles in Tasmania, 2000.

Barrie is a talented composer, arranger and performer on cornet, trumpet, flugel horn, as well as percussion. His compositions and arrangements are credited Nationally and Internationally. Brisbane Excelsior delights in the continued friendship and association with Barrie.
